Wanted to share my 'best of' picture wall from ComicCon 2014 - Ottawa, Canada.
These are costume players (Cosplay). Note the detail and imagine the work involved to reach this level of costuming.

Costuming is quite competitive and there are entire conventions dedicated to it, such as Costume-Con. Members compete for awards on an international basis.

It's just amazing what people get up to and it looks like a lot of fun to be had too!

The saying 'different strokes for different folks' sure is true!

It is. What I find fascinating is how these amateurs fabricate materials to get the exact look as seen on television, movies or graphic literature. The detail is so precise it stands up even in close-up viewing.

The most challenging part I think is creating costumes that are not only wearable but functional. For instance the couple dressed in Steam Punk.





Note the wings being worn by the woman. You can see they are fully mechanical. The man has infused copper and other metal in his clothing and even viewed up close the application is flawless.

There's a Cosplay Conference in Ottawa this October. I intend to check it out and will report back!

Until then, some recreational reading if you wish.

It's just amazing what people can do when they set their minds to it......it must be so much work involved and it would be very expensive for some of those outfits too.....I'm thinking there must be specialist stores for certain items also.

I did notice those wings looked functional.....reminds me when my daughter had to create an outfit for one of her university assignments for wearable architecture. It took her a very long time and was so involved and ended up costing quite a bit too. She created a skirt made of wooden slats on the horizontal with little dividers that were all joined to a crank handle on a metal (iron) breast plate....when the crank was turned the skirt lifted up.....it was an amazing outfit.....she won an award for that one!

Love those musical wall murals - a famous one is located in Bristol, TN/VA (i.e. a town on the border of Tennessee & Virginia) - recorded 'Country Music' (i.e. w/ the important pioneers) began here in July-August, 1927 at the Bristol Sessions w/ Ralph Peer in charge for the Victor Recording Company - the building is no longer present but the adjacent one has a large mural where musical sessions are held frequently - we have visited the spot but have not yet attended a concert. A brief summary quoted below (from HERE):

This huge and impressive music mural was painted by local artist and musician Tim White in 1987. Commemorating the historic 1927 Bristol Sessions, it features Ralph Peer (who organized the recording sessions) as well as the most famous artists to emerge from them - namely The Carter Family, The Stoneman Family and Jimmie Rodgers, the latter giving his trademark double thumbs-up salute.
