Well in the 'day in history' thread, Scifan.. brought up the Challenger disaster which occurred yesterday 30 years ago - I knew exactly where I was, i.e. in a hotel room on St. Thomas attending and speaking at a departmental radiology meeting (believe we used that location at 8 times or more; Susan & I attended at least 3-4 of those meetings).

SO, I was just 'googling' the island to bring back some memories - the first 4 pics from the web showing the Frenchman's Reef Hotel (now called the Frenchman's Cove Resort and under different management and likely w/ plenty of renovations since our last visit over 20 years ago!), map of the island (Magens Bay arrowed & also shown), and an ad for a submarine ride - we took our first sub near the waters of the capital Charlotte Amalie, which is just across the bay from the hotel. Next 4 pics are actually my own from trips there - Magens Bay again from the mountains, also shown + some examples of the flora & fauna. We've debated many times about going back but have not - St. John Island is a short boat ride away for a great day trip of swimming and snorkeling - Dave :)

I entertained on cruise ships for 3 years and know St. Thomas well.

Did the submarine there, and also at Grand Cayman island. Very different rides.

After a few months we got too comfortable with St Thomas, and would go to Red Hook and take the ferry to at the time un-touristy St John.

Nice pictures, they brought back pleasant memories.

Thanks.

Hi Bob - we enjoyed going to St. Thomas - our departmental medical meetings were setup to leave much of the afternoons & Wednesday off, so plenty of time to enjoy ourselves - Susan & I on the Wednesday usually would boat over to St. John and went to a beach for snorkeling - can't remember the name, but I believe the two images below (from the web) are of the beach I'm talking about - you probably know the name? Dave :)

Well, the roses just reminded me of Valentine's Day next month - have to make her a card (use iStudio on my MBPro), some flowers, and probably a dinner out - :) Dave

Just saw the front cover of the February issue of The New Yorker - noticed (except for George Washington) that there is an 2 to 2 party split in the past Presidents shown - Dave :)
