Googled frets and bent stings and feel much more knowledgeable about things today:D. That's some great equipment you have there Bob. And you've certainly chosen a career that is very satisfying. I think equipment is one thing but to stay in your field for so long, obviously enjoying it, must mean you have tons of talent there. Good on ya!
Andrew

I think I'm lucky in my career choice, and lucky that something I love came easily to me. We all have our unique set of abilities, I'm good at music and lousy at a lot of other things.

The instruments are my tools. As a mechanic has to invest in good shop tools, I have to invest in music tools. They may my job easier, and that lets me do my job better.

The customized touches only add about 5% to the price, and are worth much more than that if you do this for a living.

I am also lucky to have been in the last generation where live music is more important than DJ music. A greater number of musicians of my generation got work than young folks do today. Today, I'd probably have stuck with the electronics and ended up working a regular job for some big faceless corporation. That isn't a bad thing, and there are many benefits to doing that, but it's not my thing.

But this is a photo thread...

These are my old guitars. The once I quit playing as soon as I discovered the Parkers. Excellent guitars, but the Parkers do so much more.

These are Parkers. Ken Parker is an innovative luthier and although his company was purchased by US Instruments, his design features live on in a company that can handle the marketing and distribution.

Stainless steel frets, ebony fretboard, radial neck design, contoured, well balanced, locking tuners, straight string path, and in addition to the magnetic pickups, a piezo pickup under the bridge that I can blend with the magnetic pickups. They stay in tune, bend stings like a hot knife through butter, and sound great. Plus they are only 5 pounds but do to the radial neck, sustain as long as my 8 pound Les Paul model.

The picture is from my phone and washed out, they are more honey colored than this.

The one on the left is stock, the one on the right is custom made for me. The pickups can be switched to P90, Rail, Series Humbucker or Parallel Humbucker. Along with the Piezo they have a very wide variety of sounds and can sound like 4 or 5 different guitars plus (so I only have to take one to the gig, along with the sax, flute and wind synthesizer).

Hi Bob - thanks for the pics above (and of your sax - one of my favorite instruments - don't know 'how many' sax CDs I own but a plenty! ;)).

My BIL has been collecting guitars for decades - below are two pics of his collection - we discussed them years ago, but I don't remember all of the details, but a number are 'aged' classics (like the National steel, I believe). Dave :)

Susan & I have been away on the South Carolina coast (Myrtle Beach) for 4 nights - visited Brookgreen Gardens yesterday and could not resist buying the brass sculpture of two otters shown below (kind of our family name mascot over the years - ;)) - BUT, I'll be adding an addendum travelogue shortly about Myrtle Beach - Dave :) P.S. brief description below of the art piece.

Nautical Sea Life Brass Sculpture Marble Base

SPI Gallery, Balancing Act Sea Otters in brass and set on a highly polished rectangular marble base. Approximately 11'"h x 11"w x 4"d. Two sea otters playing gracefully without a care in the world. The mystery of the sea and fine brass sculptures have long been the hallmark of SPI.

It's a gorgeous design. How large is it?

The gift shop had about a half dozen different 'otter designs' of varying sizes and prices - we liked the two together and the 'elegance' of the upright design - marble base is 4" x 11" and the height of the tail of the high otter is 11", so kind of a 'moderate' size - NOW, we have to figure out where to put it - ;) Dave

P.S. Below, a number of others w/ their names that were also available for purchase - ours is called 'Balancing Act Otters' - :)

P.S.S. At Brookgreen Gardens, there is a river otter exhibit w/ an outdoor river and several were swimming - we missed feeding time - more on that magnificent place in the travelogue section soon!

They're all nice.
The one you chose looks best, imo.

That's quite a guitar collection - it looks like a music store. Does he play?

The otter sculpture is beautiful.

So are the wildlife and sunsets.

And the fossils.

Thanks y'all for posting.

Bob
