My ipad is giving me a message that it has not backed up to iCloud and that it must be plugged in and locked. It is also telling me to check my settings. I have done both and am having no luck getting rid of this message or accessing my account. What do I need to do? Phyllisf

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Try a restart of your iPad to see if this clears the problem.
Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will restart. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running well. Now see if it is operating and let us know how you go.

This is a normal message you receive when your iPad is connected to wifi and is charging.......it should disappear after tapping it.....so try a reset of your iPad....a reset in this case is akin to rebooting a PC and will not change anything on your iPad.

Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you may see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start. Let us know how you go.

Thank you! Holding down both home and power button did allow me to restart! Thank you so much.
In the future when I receive 'there is not enough storage for ICloud backup' messages... what do I do?
To be honest with you, I don't even know what ICloud is ; / ....
I'm of the 'older' generation, not to Ipad/Iphone savy... although I love them and use all the functions I DO understand!! ; )

You must have a lot of data on your iPad if it says there is not enough storage.....you get 5gb free but can purchase more if needed. Have a look in Settings - iCloud - Storage and Backup - Manage Storage and see what you have here. Apps are not counted, but the data in them are.....do you have a lot of photos? You can always sync back to your PC if you don't wish to use iCloud for backup.
Have a look at this link to learn more

Can you tell us more on what is happening.....is it frozen? Try the reset I've detailed above.

If you are trying to backup, your iPad needs to be locked, plugged into a power outlet and be on a reliable wifi source.
