IBooks isnt downloading a book that I pre purchased a few months ago that came out today. It is honestly driving me crazy and I have tried everything. I have minimized the application and then reopened it, I have attempted to download the sample of the book but it won't even download that, when I try to download it the normal way, by clicking download, it just tells me to go to my purchased items and click download again, and then it goes on an endless loop and never downloads. I have tried re starting the iPad. Nothing is working. Help!

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Try these steps to rectify your problem

Close your app completely - When an app behaves strangely it is best to close it completely and then relaunch it. From the home screen do the four finger swipe up or double press the home button to reveal your multi task bar. These are all the apps that you have opened at one time. Long press the app until it jiggles and a red minus sign will appear above it. Press the minus sign, this will close the app, not delete it, now press the home button to return to your screen. It's also a good idea to close all these apps, as it helps the iPad run smoothly, now see if it's working, if not a restart is the next step.

Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will restart. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running well. Now see if it is operating.

Reset - Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start. Let us know how you go.

I had the same problem recently, but oddly enough, only on my iPad Air; the book downloaded and displayed properly on my other devices. After contacting Apple, they decided to refund me the purchase price, and I downloaded it again a week or so later. Prior to contacting support, I had tried all the tricks, including deleting the iBooks app, but that greyed out book still sat there. You could try contacting support on this one.

First, try the usual fixes: reset, restart and force close iBooks.

To reset, press and hold Home and Power button until the Apple logo appears. Release both and let the iPad power up on it's own.

Restart: turn it off, turn it on again.

Force close the app: double tap Home button to reveal the multitask bar.
In iOS 6 - press and hold the app there until it starts to wiggle.
In iOS 7 - slide the picture above the app icon towards the top of the screen.

Delete the app (iBooks), restart your iPad and download it again.

In Settings - iTunes & App Stores, tap your Apple ID and sign out, then sign in again.

Turn off Wi-Fi and on again.

Hope that helps.
