How to set shortcut icons to the bottom of home screen?

I would like to move some shortcut icons to the bottom of the home screen so that they would never move.

How should I go about it?

Long press on any icon until they start to jiggle. Then you can drag any that you want into the dock area. You can have up to six apps in that area. Press the home button to return the screen to normal.

As stated before: 6 is the maximum. It doesn't mean these have to be apps. You can also put folders to the dock area.
