How do you update apps in countries with no Apple store?

Hello,
I work for a university and we are considering using iPads with some of our distance students. Some of these students live in countries where there is no online Apple store. In such a case, how does one update an app? Thanks in advance for any thoughts,

You can access an iTunes store in another country; you don't need a credit card, though you do need to 'prime' the account with an Apple Gift Card. Have a look at the official Apple advice.

Create an iTunes App Store account without a credit card

However, you need to be aware that not all iTunes stores have the same apps because of local licensing and media copyright issues. So, if there are specific apps that you'd need to be available, you might need to ensure that the students all accessed the same Apple store and they would therefore need a Gift Card in the currency of that country. These are widely available on the Internet; you only need the number off the card, not the physical card itself so these companies typically email you the number and so you're good to go in a couple of minutes.
