iPad 2 is cool

iPF Noob
I have just discovered the use of a VPN. Anyone know how to get the HideMyAss VPN client to work with the iPad latest OS update. Or others that definitely work. HideMyAss suggestions would be most appreciated as we have a subscription.

I don't use this service, but have my own which is working fine.

I assume you have your PPTP settings for a HideMyAss account?
Are you inputting those to the network > vpn section in the iPad settings app?

Make sure you set "Encryption Level" to maximum, not auto.

It would help if you told us what happens when you try it out, rather than just asking how you get it to work.

It says that the IPSec secret is blank and then fails to connect, I agree it is, but the instructions to setup tells me to leave it blank.

Should you not be using PPTP?

I am but the connection starts and immediately disconnects saying I am missing the IPSec secret. I think this is a problem between HideMyAss and iOS 4.3.3. I learned this after hours of reading last night. Hopefully to be resolved soon, unless of course you can help now.

Just speaking to agent zarko of HideMyAss. He says they are releasing L2TP in a week or 2 which will cure the problem, said it's a problem they had with the new iOS. As I have always said, you learn something new everyday.

Its as smooth as silk :D , one just needs to follow the :thumbs:right steps of vpn set up,
summarizing the steps, for connecting to a VPN on iPad u need to,

  • Step 1: Go to Settings
  • 2: Then go to General
  • 3: Then go to Network
  • 4: You get there something spelled V-P-N, go there.
  • 5: Add VPN Configuration.
Now, what to add, add your VPN provider’s configurations, that have been provided by them while you signed up.
For Example:
Server = pptp.vpnprovider.com (it will be provided by your VPN provider)
Account = Username (it will be your ‘username’ e.g. “MarkiMarkâ€)
RSA Secure ID = Keep it off
Encryption = Keep it on Auto
Password = Enter your password here being provided by your VPN provider e.g. XXXXXXXX
icon_smile.gif

Send all Traffic = Keep it ON
see it was that much easy, beg your pardon if you are good with very basics, just cut those steps. if you are looking for top VPN for Ipad, then StrongVPN , Hidemyass , PureVPN , Express VPN are some reliable suggestions :). Hope this works for you..

I have followed all the steps above but there is an entry for Secret on the L2TP setup and without it, I cannot connect. It says the shared secret is missing. I have no idea what I am supposed to enter here. If I change to PPTP, there is no need for Secret but I get a message saying the connection could not be established.

Interesting you should mention HideMyAss today as I added it to my VPN,s yesterday on the recommendation of a friend who is on the same local ISP as I am and gets good connection all day and mostly good connection in the evenings. I read good reviews about HMA too but having subscribed to six months service, I now find I still cannot watch UK tv in the evenings on this or my two other VPN's as the connection speed is too slow. This is a recent problem with my other two VPN's and I was hoping HMA would solve the problem. Not so, it seems. My local ISP speed remains almost as fast in the evenings as the daytime reading but a soon as I connect to VPN, the speed drops to a very low level. Disappointing!
