Hi all a few hous ago I was charging my ipad2 at friends place as it was running low on battery.

An hour later on I checked and the screen was blank and it appeared to switch itself off. So I thought thats odd and my charger was working fine as I attached it to my iphone4 and it was charging fine?

Went back home and though try a different charger - no joy

In desperation attempted linked it to laptop with iTunes and it attempted to read the ipad2 but couldnt

please can anyone suggesy what might have happened?

For the record since I've had since april, I;ve not dropped it, damaged it, exposed it to excessive heat nor spilled anything at all on it.

Logical step is to take it into my local Apple Store and let them sort it out (have Apple cover on) but havent got the time for them to send it off and get it repaired.

Many thanks

In either situation did you use the charger that came with the iPad (or from another iPad). iPhone chargers supply too little current to charge the iPad in operation, and take a long time to charge even when it is not in use. Most computer USB ports are also underpowered for the job.

If you have not done so, put your iPad on it's own charger for a couple hours (four for a full charge), the see if it will start. If it does not start then try a reset. If that does not work, yep, get thyself to an Apple Store.

Reset: Hold down the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears. The iPad will reboot. This usually takes a bit longer than a restart.
