Can someone explain the difference between an iPad Air 2 MPN numbers. What is the difference bewtween PGL12LL/A and MGL12LL/A? Is there a difference in performance? Thanks.
Hello and welcome to the forum! First, Apple's assignment of these designations may depend on a number of variables, such as to whom the iPads are being sold, the geographic distribution, and likely other factors that evade many of us not in the company. Second, with the first variables in mind, you've not told us where you are located nor why you need to know this information - might just help?
In entering MGL12LL/A into the 'Lookup' tab of Everymac the information shown below describes that particular model; however, the other number starting w/ the 'P' does not register w/ that website - doing a 'Google' search suggests that these iPads may be a 'governmental' and/or 'public' purchase - check HERE, so the iPads are likely not different but simply named dependent on who purchases them? My guess - others may come along w/ more specific information. Dave

Hi Dave and thank you for responding with the great information! I live in NJ. I am ready to purchase the iPad Air 2- I had an iPad and an iPad Mini previously. In my search to purchase, I came across someone selling a tablet with that MPN number and I noticed that the MPN number was very different than all the other Air 2 models I have seen. The seller said that he won it in a contest and doesn't need it. I tried researching that MPN number myself and I got the feeling that they might be a promotional type model and your suggestion as to it being a government or public purchase makes more sense. I basically decided not to buy it but wanted to know if the performance would be the same and if this could be a worthwhile deal and I am leaning towards no. I am having a difficult time deciding on if the 16GB will be sufficient or do I really have to spend more money on the 64GB. Thanks again for the info! Lee
Hi LWhite.... - the first letter of those model numbers likely do not reflect any hardware differences, i.e. just compare the usual specs, such as Wi-Fi only, cellular, and capacity - I have an iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi only w/ 64 GB capacity - I would STRONGLY suggest that you buy the same capacity and NOT the 16 GB (you'll loose about 4 GB w/ the iOS and some other needed files/apps) - so really not a difficult decision - these days 16 GB is a poor choice - good luck and let us know your experience.
