Blizzard Entertainment has announced at its BlizzCon gaming convention that Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft on iPad and PC is to get its first expansion this December, entitled Goblins vs Gnomes, introducing more than 120 new goblin- and gnome-infused cards for players to collect.

As you might expect from the title, the storyline centres around the epic rivalry between goblin engineers and their gnomish counterparts. While they both certainly have brilliant ideas when it comes to the contraptions they create, they don’t always get it right, sometimes to spectacularly hilarious effect! The new cards that will be introduced in the expansion will feature some of those crazy inventions, as well as some familiar faces from World of Warcraft and Hearthstone.

“Goblins vs Gnomes is going to turn Hearthstone on its head,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “It introduces a ton of new cards with all-new options for decks and strategies, and we can’t wait to see all the crazy combinations players come up with.”

When the expansion is launched this December, players will be able to win Goblins vs Gnomes card packs in the game’s Arena mode, or buy them using in-game gold or real money.

Sounds good. I do wish they'd fix a few things that are wrong with the game though. It needs some balance changes and they also need to take a little of the randomness out of it. I enjoy playing but the card draws and timing of them mean too much. Would like to see strategy and deck building matter more.
