I'm not at the top of every level, I wish, lol. Bit of a perfectionist when it comes to that stuff.
When I ran out of levels to play I went back to the beginning and replayed the old ones until I beat my own scores, lol. Yep, I'm a saddo :O

Okay.
When you clear the jelly, do you go bottom to top? Or try to do stripes?
Where possible, I always try to match at the bottom, gives more opportunity for chains (like snowball effect) that give more points.. but some levels the jelly is at the top, so go with the top in those instances. Striped candies, well, any bonus candies, are usually pretty helpful, but sometimes when you have only a few moves, don't waste them trying to make a bonus candy when you can make more useful matches/moves..
