When I open a message, the right side of my scree only shows the message in the top half of the screen and the bottom half of the right side is blank. Any clues how to fix this?

When you have problems with an app it's a good idea to close it.

Close: With the problem app closed, double tap on the Home button to get the multitask bar. Tap and hold on any icon in the bar until they jiggle, then tap the minus sign on the problem app. This will remove it from RAM and insure a clean start the next time you launch the app.

If that does not work try a restart,

Restart: Hold down the power button until the power off slider appears. Slide it off. When the iPad finishes shutting down, hold down the power button again until the Apple logo appears.

and then a reset if that does not work.

Reset: Hold down the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears. The iPad will reboot. This usually takes a bit longer than a restart.

You can also try deleting and re-installing the app.

If none of this works, go to the app's page in iTunes and find the developer's support page, and ask. If you've just upgraded to iOS 5 it is possible they haven't updated their app for compatibility yet.

Thank you for your help, it solved the problem.

Simplest way to resolve this is to click on the folder list - then click on the folder you wish to use such as mail and it normally will simply represent the email list again and when click on the email you want to read, it will 9 out of 10 times render correctly.
If not just do it again and it will work.
