Google has launched its latest update (3.1), for Google Earth on iOS, adding ocean bathymetry and ocean layer content, meaning that from today, you can explore underwater landscapes on your iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. The Google Earth and Maps team announced the update on its LatLong blog, explaining that the new update enables you to explore the ocean at your leisure, and visit famous landmarks such as the Mariana Trench, the ocean's deepest point. To look around once you're underwater, simply swipe the screen with two fingers.
iPad and other iOS device owners can also now view the "Ocean" layer, which contains hundreds of photos and videos from more than 100 contributors, according to the Google Earth blog. Obviously, the iPad's bigger screen will be a huge advantage in terms of enjoying the amazing views to the fullest, although iPhone 4 and new iPod touch owners needn't feel left out, as their devices will benefit from the update's native support for the Retina display, which provides a sharper picture.
