Gmail password not recognised

Hi, I have just switched to an Air2 from an ipad2 and whilst I think it's a great leap forward I'm having problems with gmail. I can set up Gmail and use it as a separate app but it won't work in the pre-installed email app on the desktop. I keep getting a message that either my username or password is incorrect; not so! I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Gmail app but that makes no difference. It's annoying that notification/sound alerts only seems to work in the factory installed app.
Hope someone can help!
Thanks

Notifications and sound alerts also work with the Gmail app. That's what it looks like on my iPad Air in Notification Center:

I get alerts and hear the chosen sound every time I receive an email.

For the built in Mail app:
Do you use 2 step-verification? In that case you need an app-specific password.

Thanks but that's how my notification screen is set up too. I suppose it could be a two step verification thing...but if so why does the gmail app accept my pc's gmail password?

I'm not certain. Google wrote the app, maybe that's somehow included in the app's software.

I have a problem deleting apps from my screens on my iPad 3. I can hold the app that I want to delete until it jiggles. But the app will not delete when I tap the x, the screens starts too flicker and a few of the other disappear then reappear. Also I can't get the screens to go to back to normal, meaning the screen stays in delete app mode. Use to, I just press the home button and everything would back to normal. Now, I have to do a (hold power n home button until Apple logo appears) hard reset anytime after trying to delete apps to get back to normal. This is really beginning to p@&$ me off. HELP

Welcome to iPadForums, tharley46! Nice to see you here!

Which software is installed on your iPad? Did you already try to restore via iTunes on your computer?

I'm running 8.1.2. No I haven't tried to restore yet, thinking it would be my last resort

To make sure you didn't enable restrictions, go to Settings - General - Restrictions and look at "Deleting Apps". It should be enabled.

To delete apps, try this in Settings - General - Usage - Manage Store. Tap the app you intend to remove and delete it from there.

Third option: remove the app in iTunes (computer) and sync this to your iPad.

If this doesn't work either, you'll need to restore your device using iTunes. The software on your computer should be up to date. Backup your iPad, (iTunes or iCloud), connect your device to iTunes and restore it. This will remove all the data stored on your iPad, and install the latest iOS, again. It's possible to restore from your backup afterwards. That done, perform one more hard reset.

Hope that helps.

OK, found that. But what I want to delete is a web page that I put on as a shortcut, it has an x on it but it won't delete. That web page is not in that app area. Guess I'll have to restore as new n put everything back on. DANG it. Thanks for ur help tho

The Gmail app probably asked you for the verification code the first time. It won't do it again unless you delete the app and re-add it (or something else resets the app's authentication). The verification code is only required the first time you use an app on that device.

Well dang it, I'm still having trouble deleting apps from my iPad 3. When I want to delete an app from the iPad, I hold that certain app until it jiggles and the X appears, I then tap the X and nothing happens accept maybe 2 or 3 apps disappear for a few seconds then they return plus the app I'm wanting to delete. I've tried over n over but nothing. Sometimes the screen freezes and the only way I can get everything back to normal is to do a hard reset. I can connect to iTunes and delete that way but that's such a hassle. Would like to delete from iPad itself. Started doing this bout 3 weeks ago. I've restored the iPad as new then put everything that I want back on individually. I'm running the latest software. Anyone know why this happening?
