Ghost mail in Hotmail

I have a secondary email account through hotmail. A couple of weeks ago I started seeing an unopened piece of mail in my inbox. I moved everything else to other folders and then tried deleting anything. No change. Nothing on my iPhone when I look at my hotmail account.

Now I have two ghost emails.

Any ideas what these are or how to get rid of them?

Have you tried deleting the account from your iPad, then re-installing it.

I haven't. Honestly, I'm not sure if I know how to reset it after I delete it.

It's not very likely there are any security issues here.

In case removing the account from your iPad and setting it up again doesn't help getting rid of the ghost emails, try logging in to the account using a browser. Maybe you'll find them that way.

Thanks. I deleted the account from the iPad (after I found my password). That did the trick.

Two days later and I have another one of these ghost emails. Any idea why this is happening?
