Getting the Garbage Can back on my top bar. For deleting emailsdirectly?

I obtained this IPad second hand and on my previous one I could delete emails directly because the Garbage Can was live on the top bar...now it is not and I have to use the two step...File....then Trash..Thx

Could you have the Archive emails function turned on versus the Trash function? Does your upper bar look like this (with that box icon):

To check and/or to change the function (so you can get the trash can icon, go to the Settings app, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars > the account not showing the trash can icon > Account > Advanced > change to Deleted Mailbox (under "move discarded messages into").

Hopefully, that'll sort it out for you. If yes, yay. If not, holler back and we'll take another shot at it.
