Free space on iPad v iTunes

I have noticed that the amount of free space reported by iTunes for Windows when my iPad is connected differs from that reported by the iPad "About" app. The iPad shows some 7.7Gb and iTunes shows 6.1 Gb.

Anyone any explanation, and which is correct ?

That is what I mean. Other in iTunes is lower.

There's no Other category anywhere else. Only iTunes shows it.
