emailing a photo from iPad as an <attachment>

I was told by an Apple store tech that one <<could>> send photos as standalone attachments (in addition to embedding the photos within the message). But I can't figure out how to do sens-as-attachment. Can someone please straighten me out? Thanks.

As far as I know there is no way to prevent the photo from appearing in the message body.

When you send a photo using the Photos app they appear in the message part of the email, but they are also attachments. On the receiving end the mail client may or may not display them in the message body, but they will have access to the attachments either way.
