Earbuds or headphones

I can't get earbuds or headphones to work on my iPad. What am I doing wrong?

First of all, welcome to the forum!

And I am sorry for asking this, but.... is the volume turned up???

Can you hear anything without any earphones / earbuds plugged in? The iPad has internal speakers so you should be able to hear whatever it is you are trying to listen to without earphones.

And make sure the jack is plugged in all the way. New iPads are notorious for stiff headphone plugs. (i.e. it may feel like you're plugged in but push a tad harder for full connection.)
