Double photos on iPad

How were these photos put on your iPad as this will make a difference.

Where are the doubles -- in which albums? If you created new albums from originals in some albums, iOS sometimes requires you to keep the original and the "copy" that you see is actually just a link, not a copy, so there's no option to delete -- on purpose.
 
They are doubles in the photo tab. I have events with the same pics on them

Don't worry about those. Those are just links to the originals. It's like a cross-referencing system, but you have only one real photo.

By the way, if you try to delete from Events, you'll get a confirmation request, asking you whether you want to delete everywhere. That actually means everywhere, so you risk losing your picture(s) unless you've got them backed up. So best to leave them alone unless you really want to delete everywhere.
