Does apple usually discount older generations?

My laptop finally took a crap and I decided to get an iPad instead. My wife has an ipad 2 and I like it alot. Does apple usually discount older generations when the new one comes out? I can't imagine the ipad 3 being anything I'd be willing to pay more for but if they ipad 2 and 3 are the same price than I'll try and get a 3? I have a few apple products but never got the new generation anything when it first comes out so I don't know what their usual business practice is. Thanks for the advice.

Best Buy is $50 off iPad2 right now. Rumor has it the iPad2 will see a bigger price drop too. I'd say wait till 3/7. All should be revealed then.

Yes there are quite a few members here waiting for ipad3 to launch, hoping to get a 2 at a very good price, yes I would say wait, it won't be long now.

Well, I decided to get a refurbished 32GB iPad 2 from apple today. $487 shipped. I was happy considering my wife paid $600+ in October for hers.

right now the ipad 2 is now 399 but the apple site is jsut selling the 16 gig verison.
if i could get an ipad 2 for 499 it will be worth it
