Deleting multiple contacts

I want to delete a load of superfluous contacts from my ipad 2, but the are also a lot that I want to keep. Is there a way of doing this without having to go into each individual contact to delete it

While there appears to be several apps on the AppStore that do this, I use ContactDel (free; link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/contactdel-delete-multiple/id399148990?mt=8).

Once you open the app (and allow it access to your Contacts, there is an option to select contacts you wish to delete (the contacts are presented in one long list). You select the contact(s), hit the Delete button and they are gone. Very handy tool, IMHO.
