Custom iPad App Used in ‘Noah’ Movie to Manage the Artificial Rain

‘Noah’ is a new movie directed by Darren Aronofsky starring Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly which depicts the Biblical flood and Noah’s mission to build the ark. In a recent article on the Wired, it is explained how filmmakers have used an iPad to control a huge overhead lighting and rain system to create the special effects in the game. I know I have seen the movie and they are amazing, indeed. And to think that an iPad has seriously eased the work of the shooting cast, makes us realize how much technology has evolved.

And on the eighth day, we got apps. Director Darren Aronofsky’s new film Noah is, of course, about the Biblical flood so massive it required one man to build an ark. Bringing such an apocalyptic deluge to the big screen was no easy task, and it required the special effects team behind the movie to, well, make it rain. In the video above, FXguide’s Mike Seymour details how the crew controlled their giant custom storm machine—a rig that poured down 5,000 gallons per minute. How did they do it? A single iPad app.
