Thanks for posting including screen shot. This is also good news for those who have pre-ordered -- because I doubt that Apple would ever release to retail until pre-orders have been fulfilled.

Out of their original shipment from China, so many units were allocated for pre-orders and the rest for walk in retail purchase. No one knows what those numbers are. I am sure that there will be plenty of iPad 3Gs at Apple stores and Best Buys, just like when the WiFi was released.

The Apple store on line has nothing to do with retailers They are a different sales channel

You are absolutely correct these are completely different "Sales" channels......the reality is however that Apple has only ONE product supply chain and decisions on what ahd when are not made at the sales level but at the product supply chain level.....so in this case the pre-orders will likely be allocated along with the inventory allocated for the stores.......but one never knows does one???

True. From past experiance as a specialist reseller Apple Allways takes care of Apple store stock first then retail channel second. It's almost impossible to track orders built to order from out side Apple One must rely on emails on status which is what is happening

Apple will use the same format as they did with the iPad wifi. The stores will get their stock in the day before they are able to offer the product. The same day the stores have them for sale, UPS/FedEX will be out in force. They have a working method that gets them maximum media exposure, crowds of salvating buyers waiting to get their hands on the latest and greatest, and all the thrills of a good sideshow.

Apple update on delivery April 20 news "Bloomberg"

By Connie Guglielmo
April 20 (Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc.’s U.S. customers who order the 3G models of its iPad now won’t receive the tablet computer until May 7, a few days later than expected, as the company clambers to meet demand.
U.S. buyers who ordered one of three 3G versions before yesterday will still get their iPad by the end of April, as originally promised, Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris said. The 3G model connects to the Internet using mobile-phone carriers’ third-generation service, in addition to Wi-Fi networks.
Apple said last week that demand for the iPad was “far higher†than predicted, leading the company to delay international sales of the device by one month, until the end of May. Cupertino, California-based Apple sold more than 500,000 iPads in the first week after its U.S. debut on April 3

Hope that helps the many of you whom are climbing the wall
Cheers colin down under :):D
