Can't create new mailbox

After creating several dozen mailbox folders on my iPad, I find I can't create any more. When try, I get the message: Cannot create folder. An unknown error has occurred. Does any of you smart guys out there have an answer?

Did you try the usual fixes, like restarting, resetting, force closing apps and deleting the email account and installing it again?

To force close apps (iOS 7): http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137 (In iOS 6 tap and hold an app icon until they start to wiggle, delete the apps.)
