can anyone tell me how to get rid of a black line running vertical in the I pad can it be fixed or does the I pad have to be sent off

Does the line remain stationary when you rotate the iPad from portrait to landscape mode? If it does, it could very well be a defect in the screen. If you have an Apple store nearby, you may want to take it in to be checked at the Genius Bar.

Hi, welcome to iPF!

Try these basic troubleshooting steps:

Restart the iPad (turn off, then on again)
Reset it (press and hold Home and Power button at the same time until the Apple logo appears)
