Best headphone for iPad

I will use my new iPad for travel. Please recommend the best headphone that not only gives excellent sound, but also dampens engine noise while flying.

My hubby has a set of Bose noise cancelling headphones, he loves them and he says they're great for when he mows the lawn to still hear his music. They were quite expensive though. Hopefully others will join in with their choices also.
