AV PlayerHD does not recognise .srt subtitle file

Hello, I have loaded my .mkv video file and .srt subtitle files in to AV PlayerHD app in iPad2, but when playing the file, the subtitle file is not recognised, even though it has the same filename as the movie, exceprt fo the file extensions.

I have played the video file successfully with VLC Media player, showing subtitles correctly

Can anyone please advise if this is what I can expect with .mkv video files on AV PlayerHD?

Is there a workaround or a better app that will do this properly?

AVPlayer normally plays the .srt files very well for me. Have you tried deleting and readding the movie and .srt files.
