There is now an MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) port called iMAME4all available for the iPad.
MAME was developed in 1999 to preserve the arcade classics and has gone through numerous revisions since inception. The games themselves are readily available on the internet and there are about 2000 of them.
