Hopefully I will be able to se that on my own iPad soon. I'm still struggling to get the iTunes updated (I know, sounds odd coming from an experienced user) but it is tough on an old Mac and a SLOW Internet connection. The update to iOS 6 update will be a nightmare, waiting for it to load, installing, restoring, errors…

How do you get the flyover to work?

Tap on the map icon on the homepage, enter a location with flyover capability in the search box. I used Rome, Italy. Zoom in on the specific location you want, then use the two finger upward swipe to tilt the image. To rotate the image, use two fingers and rotate them counter clockwise or clockwise. Do fine tuning adjustments using all three described methods until the view is just the way you want it.

P.S. Zooming is done by touching two fingers to the screen and spreading them apart.

That's not half bad, sci

Can you try something a bit more down-to-earth, no pun intended. How about the AB-SK border at Lloydminster? Those red poles should stick out like a sore thumb.

There's no flyover view available for Lioydminster, but here's the Apple map flyover view of the B.C. Alberta border on the Trans Canada highway.

Yes, I read afterwards that it has limited coverage. Looks good, though. And thanks for the TransCanada Highway.

The Flyover feature may look "cool", but in truth it's a useless gimmick, designed for kiddies who want to play at being Superman. It fulfils no useful function.

The rest of the Apple Maps is a disaster, with inaccurate detail, reduced coverage, inferior graphics and glaring inaccuracies wherever you look. I've compared the two systems in detail, on one iPad updated with iOS 6 and another (mine) still running iOS 5. Needless to say, I won't be updating mine – I'll be sticking with iOS 5 and Google Maps.

It's a pity, as there are some other features of iOS 6 that look useful, but I would sooner do without those new features than lose the hugely superior Google Maps.

Comparing the quality of Google maps to the new Apple maps is like comparing apples to oranges. google maps have been around for years and have had their database continuously added to and corrected. You can't have a fair comparison with Apple maps which just started and simply have not had enough time to generate the huge database that Google maps has. A fair comparison would be to compare the new Apple maps to what Google maps were at their start.

This isn't an academic exercise, though. We're talking about what feature users had come to rely on and expect, and now going backward with Apple maps. If a new car maker emerged now, I'd compare its cars against other cars available now, not against the first car that Ford ever produced, for instance.

Can I just say that for someone like me who would never be able to visit all these cities. Having flyover is fantastic. It feels like I'm a bird and I'm actually there. So please, it's not totally useless
