Some Kindle e-ink readers have a feature that has a robo-voice that reads you a book. It sounds like crap, but some people don't mind. I wouldn't recommend it to someone trying to learn English, lol.

There's no word explanation feature that I know of beyond dictionaries.

I've had Kindle e-ink since the old-school days, so my Kindle e-reader has the VoiceOver (robo-voice) feature. I've read that newer Kindle e-readers don't offer it. And iPads have never offered that on the Kindle app as far as I know. If you know otherwise, please provide directions so the OP can access.

I don't know if there is any way to download free audible books without membership, I mean without sitting up you credit card?

I can't help with that, but the Audible website offers help via phone or email, and there are FAQs.

I misread the OP. I didn't realise it was needed to learn the language also.
