ZDNet reports today that Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimates that Apple sold 300,000 iPad 3Gs this past weekend (including Friday). Munster bases this figure on checks at 50 Apple retail stores, and includes 52 days of pre-orders. In comparison, the iPad Wi-Fi sold 300, 000 on launch day alone, with 22 days of pre-orders, but then it’s to be expected that the Wi-Fi model sales would be higher than the pricier 3G. Munster adds that Apple’s “lower than intended supply†failing to meet consumer demand for the iPad 3G has also adversely affected sales figures, adding that lines were shorter for the iPad 3G. He states that current supplies of the 3G are very limited, with 49 of the 50 stores called already sold out. ZDNet also confirms that in the Northeast, the iPad (both versions) is all but sold out.

Apple's expectations and forcast were completely wrong, which surprises me. Obviously they haven't had enough faith in their own capabilities and possibilities.

If you in the US think, you suffer, then just think about the rest of the world.....waiting another four weeks from now on.....

It is hard to forcast the demand for a rollout like this. Any polls could be way off, as people change their minds one way or the other. The big bottleneck is in the screens. With the lawsuites against LG, it may be that there is only one legal seller of any type of LCD screen allowed in the US. That would really put a crimp on things.
