I have been looking for a good replacement for the targus vucase which protected my ipad 2.
But even targas has had their share of fitting problem. I am interested in hearing from other owners who have found a good case that allows both orientations for easy hands free reading/typing.

thanks,

I've gone through a couple of cases so far. Here is my experiences on the iPad 3 or iPad new or whatever you want to call it.....

My first case was the Speck Pixelskin HD for the iPad 2. Case fit the new iPad very well. was actually quite happy with it until I saw Speck had the new Pixelskin HD designed for the iPad 3....the only thing I didn't care for on this case was the gummy strip to keep the cover closed.

Speck then put out the newly designed Pixelskin HD for the new iPad. Sleep/Wake magnets, newly designed clasp. I ordered it. Not so impressed. Sleep/ Wake function worked great, however the case itself fit a little looser than the iPad 2 case. New clasp was OK, but let a small gap between the cover and the screen. Since I throw my pad in my bag a lot I didn't like the idea of having a gap that allowed junk to gather between the screen and the flap (I'm currently going naked...no screen protector). I sent it back to Speck....they have an awesome return policy...and ordered up the Speck Fitfolio.

Speck Fitfolio...So far I really like it. It has a plastic back with the proper cutouts for all openings and Vegan leather (pleather) front that wraps around back, Sleep/Wake function works great, newly designed clasp (not the bungee like on the older one), NO GAP between screen and front flap, inside of flap has soft microfiber lining (seems to collect lint). It folds into typing stand or viewing stand which I really haven't used yet so I can't comment on how well they function.

So for now I will be rockin' the Fitfolio. I really like the fit and function, it looks stylish, and doesn't add too much bulk compared to other cases. I will have to see how she wears...only time will tell. YMMV

If by both orientations you mean being able to position the iPad in both landscape/portrait mode, then you may wish to check out this one:

Amazon.com: Detour 360 by Devicewear: Rotating iPad 3 Case Leather Case for The New iPad: 3rd Generation: Electronics

which is showing some nice reviews at the moment. I'd take a chance on it but I'm not a big fan of the foot print this type of case uses. But it does work in two positions (portrait being the second one) which could be a plus. I might consider it. Reviews are much stronger than those for the Targus.

Agreed. I have one on my desk just waiting for my new iPad to arrive. It looks fine, but can't really react to performance yet. But it is much cheaper than the Targus swivel case! (But not in looks. To me they look pretty much the same.)

I now have had my new iPad for a day or so, and I do like the Deft swivel case. It is not quite as well padded as my older Incase, but otherwise seems quite nice.

Otterbox defender! It has 2 positions for landscape (viewing movies and typing) and can also be used in portrait but this is quite vertical (not angled) but works. AS far as fitting goes this thing fits like a glove (on new iPad). It also has the auto sleep function built into the front cover case. Given the rugged protection it may be you think it add too much bulk but is a good, slim design (imporovement over previous versions).

I'm cheap. I have a Moko case, in lovely purple. Swivels between portrait and landscape and the stand part of the cover detaches, making it nice and easy to handle for sitting on your knee or reading in bed. Did I mention it's cheap?

I like purple! I'm going to get this. Thanks for posting!
