Hello,
i had a question for you. Is it true that with iOS 5 I can playback 1080p videos on Ipad 2? Before iOS 5, I coul only playback just up to 720p, right?

I don't know, I read this and wanted to be sure:
Ipas 2 technical specs:

Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

According to what i read here, I can playback 1080p videos with my Ipad 2, right?

Yes and iMovie can edit 1080p imported from an iPhone 4s. I've just done exactly that yesterday. :)

According to my understanding and experience, since iPad 2 comes with the 1024 x 768 pixels resolution, only 720p video can well be played on it.

The iPad 2 will play 1080p videos. It will reduce the resolution when playing back on the iPad, as it must for the screen, but you do get full 1080p quality if you use AirPlay or the HDMI cable to display it on another device (an HDTV or AppleTV).

The iPad 2 only records at 720p.

The specs are here: Apple - iPad 2 - View the technical specifications for iPad 2.

Yes, I can definitely play back a 1080p video, but don't get 1080p on the screen because the screen on the iPad 2 doesn't not have 1080 pixels on the narrow side. The iPad will simple scale the video so that it plays fine.
