$1.5 Million-Worth of iPad Minis Stolen in Heist

Well it seems that some people just can’t wait to get their hands on their iPad mini, and they’re not too keen on paying for them either, if this story from The New York Post, as reported on by AppleInsider, is anything to go by! According to the report, 3,600 iPad minis that had just landed in the country from China were stolen from a hangar at New York’s JFK airport. This was the same building where the Lufthansa heist took place in 1978, apparently, when $5 million in cash and $875,000 in jewels was stolen. This was the largest cash heist ever in the US, and was the subject of the 1990 “GoodFellas†movie. AppleInsider says that this week’s robbery occurred this Monday, around the midnight hour, and involved two thieves using an airport forklift truck to help them carry away two pallet-loads of iPad minis! They were interrupted by an airport employee and had to leave three more pallets behind! Apparently it is thought this could have been an inside job.
