I'm not sure if it's the best, but Pages works well for me.

One of our members carried out a survey of Office apps for his company; you can see his conclusions in this thread...

    http://www.ipadforums.net/new-member-introductions-site-assistance/22431-hi-all.html

The Apple iWorks Office suite for the iPad has a set of useful Help pages that show their capabilities here...

Pages is Word compatible and can read .doc and .docx files and save in .doc and .pdf

Keynote is PowerPoint compatible and can read .ppt and .pptx files and save in .ppt and .pdf

Numbers is Excel compatible and can read .xls and .xlsx files and save in .xls and .pdf

I have Pages, Keynote, and Numbers
But so far, "Documents to Go" (along with DropBox) seems to be the easiest way to go. Just my experience so far but I've only had the Ipad 2 a little while now.

Any one know if I can edit my .doc CV and E-mail it from my Ipad. I have tried the Savy Soda and Google Docs apps but they won't let me save as a .doc file and E-mail.

Any one know if Pages will let me E-mail the edited document as a .doc file?

A quick question on this. I'm looking for a good Word Processing app for iPad. Pages seems like the best option but it lacks support for Dropbox or GoogleDocs. Can I share a file from Pages to Goodreader and then use that to manage the export to either of these cloud services?

Yes. Or you can upload to iWork.com beta service. I use it and theres options to share publicly or keep private and email them personally.

I read more on this and it seems the iWork apps do not have the 'open in' feature. If this is the case then how would you share a file from Pages with Goodreader?

I had a thought that I could email the files to my GMail account and then try and open these in GoogleDocs on the Ipad and save them in GoogleDocs. That way they would be available to GoodReader and other apps that can access GoogleDocs without ever having to leave the iPad. So far I have been unable to open them in any browser on the iPad to allow me to do this - it just seems to open the document in a preview window and I can't save it. Any ideas on this?

And that is not free either.

Pages is an excellent word processor (probably the best in iPad) but lack of cloud support renders it almost useless.

If your documents live their whole lives within iPad then Pages is fine, but if any interoperability is required, Pages (& Numbers & Keynote) sucks.

But you can upload/download documents to the MobileMe iDisk and access those documents from there - either on your PC or iPad in another application. And, of course, you can email them to other users, your PC etc.

I've used Pages for over a year. I find that it works great for editing Word documents. When Pages and Numbers were first available for the iPad, I was hesitant. They are after all $10 apps but the truth is, now I don't know how I got along without them. I tried a couple less expensive apps but I got what I paid for.

Yes but it still no match with Dropbox sync where I can open same document in PC and then again on iPad without going through rigmarole of uploading/downloading/emailing multiple versions of same document.

I use Office 2 HD even though it is overall inferior product compared to iWork suite, it is more usable due to its cloud sync feature.

Yip, the lack of good cloud support is about the only thing putting me off the iWords suite to be honest. Would love to see Dropbox and GoogleDocs support.
