VLC is a popular multimedia content viewer app that you have probably heard about. The iOS version of VLC has been recently updated with a new user interface for iOS 7, along with other improvements.

Among the features that version 2.2.0 brings, here are some of the most important ones – Google Drive integration and Dropbox streaming, new multitouch gestures, improved library for TV Shows and Audio, better UPnP integration with downloading support, a startup tutorial, new streaming formats and protocols. Also, the WiFi upload has been rewritten so it should be quicker now. You can also improve your privacy by using the new Passcode Lock feature. The VLC app for iOS comes with a size of 24.6MB and can be downloaded for free from the App Store.

That's welcome news. Thanks, Radu. I've used VLC on Windows and Mac for ever, and had the original version for iOS, which the developer pulled from the app store after an argument over open source licensing.

Good to see this excellent app is back in circulation.

As an aside, VLC Streamer is worth having. There's a free version supported by ads, which will stream content from your network to your iDevices. It works very well. You need the app (free or paid) and a server app called VLC Streamer Helper on your PC. I haven't come across any filetypes that it won't handle.
