I read the book about the voyage - The Kon Tiki Adventure - a couple of tomes. It's a great read

Sounds interesting. Is it about the voyage only, or is manifacturing included?

Research, construction and the voyage are covered. The book, by Thor Heyerdal, could be available on index.org or google books - I'm pretty sure it is out of copyright.

EDIT... I've just checked index.org and Kon Tiki by Thor H is available.

JA and Richard - we had to read Kon Tiki in high school. Required reading list! But get this.....voluntary attendance!!! HA HA HA HA I think the teachers were hippies and as stoned as most of the students! I must say NOT ME tho'. I was a farm girl who wanted to ride my horse forever! That was my best high in those days! I still laugh tho when I think of all the required stuff they gave us at the same time as voluntary attendance! An oxymoron I would think!

We had to read a lot of books (not voluntarily), and I never had a problem with that, except for one: "Buddenbrooks" by Thomas Mann. I liked his "Felix Krull" and read it several times after finishing school, but I've never managed to read the other one entirely. It's still somewhere in my library, I think.
