Noob looking for some answers?/?/

I have always enjoyed using Mac computers at school and some jobs. I started a new position as Director of Web Design. I am being offered the computer (or Ipad) of my choice. I am wanting to get a mac or an ipad, but do not know what to get. I want a mac so I have all the power I can get but want an ipad for the mobility. I was wondering if you had any ideas.... Does the ipad allow you to make phone calls? Can you call from the Google Voice app? Are there any good ftp, html, and other good apps that would allow me to work from? Or should I go for a Mac? Thanks in advance!

I would get a Mac book pro and a iPad you really need a phone also. The iPad is great but it's not a computer and it's not a phone.
