So I was never an iPad fanboy and saw them as a bit unnecessary but I have to admit, I'm kind of hooked. I got my iPad 32gb white yesterday and I have hardly slept since then. In all technicality I got it for free through my university's honors college, but the way I see it I'm reaping dividends for working my butt off in high school while the majority of my class slacked off. I've already been familiar with all the goings-on with iOS but what I'd like to know is why my iPad pauses with headphones in (maybe headphone out feature?) and where I can find a really good PowerPoint reader/editor so I can download presentations from blackboard and annotate them with lecture notes. I'm sure I will come up with other concerns but in the meantime that is what's on my mind. Happy to be here and look forward to getting to know everyone.

Welcome to the forum.

The headphone thing is typical. It has been that way since the iPod, and is probably cosidered a power saving feature so that you don't have to remember to stop playback when you unplug the headphones and stick the device in your pocket, or in the case of an iPad, your backpack.

My suggestion for the Power Point annotation is to get a compatible app to open them, then export as a PDF. Once you do that there are many choices of PDF readers with annotation capabilities. Do a search on the forum for student note taking apps for more suggestions and opinions than you probably want.

Here are some reviews of the better Office compatible apps to get you started.

Good to hear from you. You’ll find a whole bunch of iPad enthusiasts in this Forum who are only too willing to help other iPad owners and to hear of their experiences. Don’t be afraid to post any questions you may have or use the ‘Search’ button near the top of the Forum web page. I usually find I discover one new interesting and useful piece of information about my iPad every day - and often not even what I was looking for!!

Hope to hear from you soon with your thoughts about the iPad.

Have fun and enjoy your iPad
