First, I apologize for asking such a dumb question. I tried researching the threads for the answer but it was all obviously beyond my grasp.

I am not a computer savvy user. I don't even understand the language that everyone else is using ( is a document the same as a page of something you wrote? etc., etc.) So, my question is what app(?) should I use so that my kids can write papers for school. These are high school and middle school age kids. Picture me having to write a book report with pen and paper and turning it in for a grade and now doing it on an iPad. I don't mind paying for it if it makes it easier to use. I might have to use it too!

Thanks for any help you give and please keep the you're so dumb jokes to a minimum...

Welcome to the forum, and you have proven already that you're not as dumb as you make out, because you have come to the right place.

For what you are looking for, I have no hesitation in recommending Pages. It costs $10 from the App Store, and is worth every cent. For a further $20 you can get it for Mac computers, and it will automatically sync documents between the two devices. If your kids have an iPad each, you only need to buy the app once, if they are using the same AppleID. You can install it on multiple iPads and iPhones for one payment.

And if you create an electronic version of something you do with pen(cil) and paper it is a document. It used to be only text documents, like the book report, we're documents and other things like a spreadsheet was called other names (the electronic version of the spreadsheet is/was called just that - a spreadsheet). Computer people have gone to great lengths to minimize the difficulty in remembering these names and have taken to hiding the extension at the end of the name to make it easier and less cluttered so all of your documents open with different programs (Pages being an excellent one to use), but they are all documents of some type.

Hi Musashi - welcome to the forum! :)

As already suggested, Pages is a great option for a 'word processor' on the iPad (there are other office apps for the same purpose) - BUT, keep in mind that the 'on-screen keyboard' of the device is not user friendly for typing long reports, so you will need to consider a BT (Bluetooth) keyboard; again, there are a number of options, but I've been using Apple's version for two years - works fine. Of course, the other consideration is whether these 'documents' can be submitted electronically or need to be printed? If the latter, then you will need to have a printer that is able to communicate w/ the iPad - there are choices, so if the latter is needed, please post back here - good luck!

This has been very helpful. "Pages" is what I'm going to use with your recommendation! I will be using this forum for future questions that I can't find answers to on my own! Thank you.

I guess if someone opts for Apple devices..he/she is not dumb..pretty smart on the contorary..the devices from the house of Apple are really smart and they can be operated by the people who are equally smart enough to have the capability of operating them..so there is no point of being dumb.
