I have just registered with the forum, I'm concerned my iPad may have been hacked today when I opened an email. Could anyone tell me how I can find out whether this has happened and how do I know if I have security on my iPad. Thankyou

Hi Margaret - welcome to the forum! I'm in the USA, so not sure about the ISP you are using nor which mail accounts you have setup in the native Mail app on the iPad - so, please provide some more specifics - the iPad mail app will simply 'mirror' the data from your email account servers, so the iPad is not really the issue relative to security - you might want to better explain what you mean by 'hacked' - hopefully w/ the additional information, a better response can be offered.
