Well I've had my iPhone for about 6 mo. and luv it so traded my 10 mo old Dell insperion/win7 for my iPad2. Only problem is, the person who bought my iPad did not get the WiFi with 3G which is what I wanted. I have tried to tether my iPhone to iPad and it worked just a couple times.Do not recognize each other.

Can anyone explain how and why I have no Wifi or cannot tether when I'm out and about? I amcurrently connected to my sisters but no connection out of the house.

Glad to be a part of the "I" group as windows was just to much work and this puppy is sweet . Just need to figure out a few items

All I can do is tell you how I do it.

I go to the iPhone, Settings, and turn on the Personal Hotspot.

Then I go to the iPad, Settings, Wi-Fi and choose the iPhone when it shows up. A few seconds later (sometimes not so few) I get the chain link next to the iPad at the top left, and I'm ready to go.

If there is no other network around, I can usually skip the iPad settings. It will connect automatically.

I've noticed that if the iPad goes to sleep, or on other random occasions when the connection isn't active the iPhone will disconnect the iPad. Often that means turning the hotspot off, then on again on the iPhone and reconnecting. I've never had it happen when I was actively suing the internet connection.

Also, make sure your phone has a solid 3G connection when you tether. If you don't, it wont' matter if the iPad connects to the phone or not, you'll have a lousy, if any, internet connection.
