9to5 Mac reports that LinkedIn has just updated its iPhone/iPad app, and apparently it’s a pretty major update, making it almost an entirely new app. According to the LinkedIn Blog, this new version of the app is “faster, simpler, and better.†To break those three areas down a little further, LinkedIn says that the new app is between two and ten times faster for all features, from search to reading the update stream. To make the app even simpler, LinkedIn says that it has been completely re-designed to focus on four key areas: Updates, from your network; Inbox, where you can view all your invitations and messages in one go; You, where you can access your profile and connections, and share updates; and Groups & More, where you get to browse and interact with your groups, and also build your network via the People You May Know feature.

According to LinkedIn, much of the app’s redesign has been inspired by feedback garnered from LinkedIn users, which is why the app now starts with the Update stream, as that’s one of the most used areas of the app, apparently. Also, the ability to access Groups directly from the app was the number 1 requested feature by LinkedIn members, so that’s why that’s in there.

And it’s not just the app that has been updated either, as LinkedIn has also just introduced a new, HTML5 optimised page especially to benefit mobile browsers.
