When plugged into my PC, my iPad air 2 shows on my iTunes program. Under the "on my device" list, there isn't a photo option.
Why doesn't this show please?

On My Device only shows things that are synced from your iTunes Libraries, like; music, books, tv shows, etc. Photos are either synced from a folder on your computer (not in iTunes), or another app like iPhotos if you have a Mac.

To see you Photo sync settings choose the Photos tab at the top of the screen when your iPad is connected and selected in iTunes. You can't see the individual files this way. You'll have to go to the selected folder or computer app to do that.

iTunes will do nothing at all about photos that were taken on your iPad or imported by a method other than iTunes.

You can still see them on your PC. Just look under your mounted devices for a USB/Camera device when the iPad is plugged in, via USB. There will be a DCMI folder (just like a camera) where your pictures reside. Feel free to copy them to your computer from there, but it's not a good idea to delete or add pictures using this method.

For Mac users, you can use the Image Capture app in the Applications folder to look at and copy images from the camera roll off the iPad.
