Hiding books

Am i correct in saying that by hiding purchased books in settings only those books on the shelf use hd space? Thanks.

Books only take up space when downloaded. The Purchased bookshelf is just a list of all the books you've every purchased from iTunes. The books themselves are not on the iPad, unless they show on another bookshelf (which would mean they have been downloaded).

Turning off the Show All Purchases in Settings iBooks saves you the space need to store the list. Probably a couple of KB at the most.
