Editing with iMovie

I'm working on a project and need a 30 second sound byte from a song in my iTunes. How do I edit what part of the song goes into my project? Obviously I don't want the whole song to play.

I think the only way to do that is on the pc...as I am still trying to find an app in cydia and the app store that allows you to do this.

I have no idea why the ability to do so is not in there. It seems pretty basic. Could I edit the song in iTunes perhaps? What happens when I change the song back to it's original form in iTunes? Will it affect the overall video?

I have the cydia app phonezap on my iPhone that allows you to copy a clip from song to be used as a custom ringtone but this app does not work on the iPad.

You can use audacity on the pc...free I believe, to copy a clip from a song while keeping the original. Then place back into your iTunes folder and sync back up to your iPad. The song clip should then be available in iMovie.
