Hi Guys,

My name is Adam and I'm living in the UK. I'm a musician and an Apple user. Laptops desktops phones etc. Pretty much the best products to make my life easier on the road in the studio. I've never had an iPad but now I'm considering to buy one and that's why I'm here. I need one for only reading PDFs. All of my charts and music scores are in pdf and now I just fed up to print out always the new parts. As I said I've never had and ipad before and now I can't decide shall I go for a new one or a 1st gen ipad will do the job? I don't need anything else on it just for reading maybe web browsing and emailing or just watch a movie before I go to bed (no skype, no iMessage, no games)
Would I be happy with a first gen?
Thanks your help

Are you 100% sure you don't need, or ever need, more than what you state? There are lots of cool apps on iOS for musicians. You'd best chat with them first before making this decision. From a personal point of view, there is no way I'd spend a dime on a first gen iPad. It will not run the good apps and it is just old. Heck, I'd get a used 4th gen iPad or even an Android tablet if all I really wanted to do is read PDFs (sheet music). There is so much more you are cheating yourself from, but that is just my opinion. Again, talk to your music buddies about the possiblities of an iPad for music creation before making this decision.

At a minimum get a third generation iPad. The retina display will be a major improvement for reading PDF, or pretty much anything.

Hi Adam and welcome to the Forum!

It's not until you do get an iPad that you realise all the wonderful things it can do for you, so please keep this in mind when purchasing one.

As has been said the first generation iPad is very old now in technology terms and many new apps will not run on it..... It also is shackled by having limited ram....the newer iPads have 4 times as much ram and will serve you much longer and better. There is now talk of Apple ceasing production of the iPad 2 and it too will begin it's decline.

I myself would opt for one of the newer iPads.....have a look at our iPad for Musicians Forum to see what others are doing with there's.
