I have an old model TV and want to connect my ipad2 to my Tv. I bought the composite av cable and hooked it up. The
Only thing that shows up on the TV is Netflix so I am assuming it has something to do with the iPad settings. Anyone out
There figured this out and have some help for me? Thanks!

Anything in the video app should play on your TV, when hooked up with the AV cable.

well first of all what do you expect to show up on the screen perhaps something like when we connected a laptop to tv where we can see anything we have on the laptop screen itself or do you have other multimedia apps such as vlc media player which contains movies and wants it to show :ipad-movie:

I should be able to see whatever is on my iPad show up on the tv and it does not do that. We can stream some tv on our iPad that we
Can't get on our tv so I bought the cable having been told that plug it in and whatever is on the iPad screen shows up on the TV. It
    Hasn't worked that way.

I'm not sure the composite cable is supposed to "mirror" like the VGA or AV (HDMI) ones do.

You can get one of these and any cheap or expensive HDMI cable and you're in business.

Although it costs around $100 can I recommend Apple TV. Bought it earlier this year. Apart from being able to stream movies, TV etc (which is why I got it) it is great for being able to hook up the iPad wirelessly (although you do need HDMI to connect the Apple TV box to your TV).

If you buy the Apple HDMI cable, it also has a connector that plugs into your charger so you can watch movies all day without draining the battery.

Sorry, I must have been thinking of the A V composite cable, which does have a connector for the charger.

The Apple TV now has only an HDMI output, which cannot connect to an older TV, I.e. one with only RCA - Yellow, Red, and White inputs.

I did a short search on the web and found several sellers of HDMI to composite adapters. This would solve the problem of using the latest Apple TV with an older TV set.

Well I went to best buy today and spent the 39.00 for the dongle. The exact one discussed above. When I plug it into the iPad 2 I receive a message that the accessory is not compatible and an iOS update is required. This is a problem because For many reasons I do not want to update. I have spent hours trying to get this to display to my tv including using various cydia tweaks and nothing seems to work. Any advice before I return the adapter ?

Just to confirm, you got one of these right? Did you connect an HDMI cable to that adapter and then to your TV? If so where/when did you get the update message, when you plugged the adapter into your iPad or when you plugged the cable into your TV? Because I've been using this same adapter on my iPad 2 that's never been updated with no problems. Something doesn't make sense. If you're using the 30 pin adapter there's no reason any update should be required.

A genuine Apple adaptor should have no issues. Any third party produced adaptors can give you these issues as they are not "supported" by Apple.

Yes. I got a genuine apple 30 pin connector made my apple. I purchased it at best buy and paid $39.99.

The message appears as soon as I plug the adapter into the iPad. The hdmi cable does not have to be connected and I still receive the message. I have the same iOS on my iPhone 4 and I receive the same message when I plug the adapter into my phone.

I read on the web that there is a new version of this adapter and an older version of the adapter. The new version was released by apple at the same time as the iPad 3. I also noticed that when you search this product on amazon.com there is an adapter that is noted as "older version".

I'm going to return this one to best buy today and order the older version from amazon.
